Breaking Free from Depression: Say YES to Life and Get Unstuck
Depression is a heavy fog that can settle over life, making everything feel dim and uncertain. In today’s fast-paced world, more people than ever are struggling—whether from financial stress, social isolation, self-doubt, or simply feeling lost in the noise of daily life. I know this feeling intimately. Fighting third-stage pancreatic cancer for two years was no party. Now that I’m in remission, reclaiming my life has been harder than I expected. I want to be strong and independent, to get back to work, but the toll of chemo and radiation left me feeling diminished. Depression crept in like an unwanted guest, and suddenly, I found myself stuck—not just physically, but mentally and emotionally. That’s when I had to remind myself: I still have my YES. ✔ Y – You Are in Charge of Your Mindset → Even when you feel powerless, your thoughts are still yours. ✔ E – Engage with Life → Small actions create momentum, even when you don’t feel like it. ✔ S – Seek Support & Spiritual Connection → You are not alone. Healing happens in connection. Saying YES isn’t about having all the answers—it’s about choosing to move forward, even in the smallest way.
Depression is a heavy fog that can settle into our lives,
making everything feel dim and uncertain. In today’s fast-paced,
hyper-connected world, more people than ever are struggling with it—whether due
to financial stress, social isolation, self-doubt, or simply feeling lost in
the noise of daily life. I know this feeling intimately."
Fighting third-stage pancreatic cancer for two years was no
party. Now that I’m in remission, taking back my life feels harder than I ever
expected. I want to be strong, independent, and get back to work—but chemo and
radiation have left me at a lesser capacity, and that opened the door for
depression in a way I never imagined. I barely have the words to describe how
helpless I felt. Not just because of the cancer, but because once I beat it,
there was almost no fight left in me for anything else. Being stuck became my
reality. At first, it felt like there was no way out.
But here’s the truth: You don’t have to stay stuck.
As the YES Coach™, I believe that every person has the power
to shift their reality. My YES Philosophy is about embracing life,
choosing positivity, and taking intentional steps toward healing. Depression
thrives in isolation and stagnation, but YES is an action word—it's a
call to move, to change, to reclaim your power.
Y – You Are in Charge of Your Mindset
One of the biggest traps of depression is the belief that we
have no control. It whispers lies like “I’ll never feel better” or “Nothing
I do matters.” But the truth? Your thoughts shape your reality.
🔹 Action Step:
Start small by challenging negative self-talk. When you hear yourself thinking,
“I can’t”, replace it with “I am learning how.” When you feel
like saying, “I’m stuck”, remind yourself, “I am finding a way.”
Depression makes you feel powerless, but your thoughts are
still YOURS. Even the tiniest shift in thinking is a step toward freedom.
E – Engage with Life, Even When You Don’t Feel Like It
Depression makes you want to retreat, but healing happens in
action. Saying YES means engaging with life, even in small ways.
🔹 Action Step:
Make one commitment each day to engage—whether it’s stepping outside for five
minutes, calling a friend, journaling, or simply smiling at yourself in the
mirror.
Your brain needs evidence that life is worth living,
and you create that evidence by participating, even when it feels hard.
S – Seek Support and Spiritual Connection
You are not meant to navigate this alone. Depression
isolates, but YES connects.
🔹 Action Step:
Find your anchor—a supportive friend, a coach, a therapist, a community, or a
spiritual practice that lifts you. Prayer, meditation, or even deep breathing
can reconnect you to something greater than your current struggle.
When you say YES to seeking support, you remind
yourself that you are not alone.
The Power of YES: Moving Forward
Depression wants you to say no to life, to withdraw,
to give up. But the moment you choose YES—even in the smallest way—you
start shifting the energy in your favor.
It doesn’t have to be a grand transformation overnight.
Healing happens in micro-movements:
✅
Saying YES to a morning routine that nourishes you.
✅
Saying YES to one positive thought each day.
✅
Saying YES to movement, connection, and growth.
If you’re struggling with depression, I want you to remember
this: Your YES is your lifeline. You have the power to step forward, no
matter how small the step may seem. One YES at a time, you can get unstuck and
reclaim your joy.
Are you ready to say YES to yourself today?
